Salt Lake City • An internal audit of the Utah State Office of Education's motor pool has found the system lacks internal controls, policies and training which have led to waste.
The Standard-Examiner reports that the audit is part of Utah State Office of Education associate superintendent for business and operations Scott Jones' greater plan to improve the offices' financial system.
The audit found that the motor pool was not mishandled financially, with only two questionable reimbursements, adding up to just over $43. However, none of the 10 staff members auditors interviewed said they had ever seen motor pool policy or procedures.
Jones said a series of audits released this month turned up no indication of fraud.
Starting in November, new employees will receive training in policies and procedures for the motor pool.
