Westminster College has a new president — the university's interim president.

The private college's board of trustees voted unanimously to appoint Stephen R. Morgan the school's 18th president. He will be inaugurated in September.

"The Board has complete confidence in President Morgan's ability to lead the Westminster community of learners well into the future," said Tom Ellison, former chairman of Westminster's Board of Trustees.

Morgan, a 30-year fixture at the college of 3,000 students, has been working as acting president since February, when then-president Brian Levin-Stankevich announced his retirement.

As vice president of institutional advancement, Morgan is credited with building the college's endowment to more than $70 million and overseeing fundraising for construction projects including the Giovale Library, renovations to the Gore School of Business and construction of the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory and the Dolores Dore Eccles Health, Wellness & Athletic Center.

Morgan, a certified public accountant, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah. But his wife and three children all are Westminster graduates.
