Adelaide Clinger, the 12-year-old killed by her sibling in an accidental shooting Sunday in Kaysville, was a straight-A student who sang in the choir at Centennial Junior High School, school officials said.

"I'm told she was just a sweetheart of a kid," said Chris Williams, spokesman for the Davis School District.

Clinger was shot about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 West block of Cooper Street, said Kaysville police Lt. Paul Thompson.

Her death distressed several of her classmates at Centennial, where three large groups of students were meeting with grief counselors on Monday. Grief counselors also were at Snow Horse Elementary and Davis High schools, where Clinger's siblings attend.

KUTV Channel 2 reported that authorities confirmed "the girl was shot by her sibling at their home." But Thompson declined to comment on the circumstances of the shooting, since it is under investigation. All of the parties involved have been contacted, and there are no outstanding suspects, Thompson said.

An online Give Forward fundraiser has been collecting funds for Adelaide's family to pay for funeral expenses, according to the webpage.

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, the fundraiser had amassed more than $12,000 of a $20,000 goal.

"Addy was a vivacious girl who shared her laughter and love with everyone," the webpage reads. "She will be dearly missed by all who knew her."
