A 43-year-old Layton man died this morning after being ejected from his semitrailer while driving on State Road 30 near Grouse Creek in northwest Utah.

Curtis Thompson was eastbound when he drifted off the right shoulder and swerved back onto the road, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. He hit a steep embankment and the 2002 Kenworth, pulling a flatbed loaded with crushed metal, did a three-quarter roll. UHP spokesman Cameron Roden said it appears fatigue was a factor in the crash, adding there was no indication of excessive speed. It appears Thompson was not wearing a seat belt, he said.

A passer-by reported the wreck around 7:30 a.m., but the crash may have occurred between one and two hours earlier, Roden said. - Steve Gehrke
