A 20-year-old man was booked into Salt Lake County jail on Wednesday after he acknowledged that he had beaten his fiancee with a hammer and his fists in front of their child a week earlier. On June 23, an officer spoke with the battered victim in the parking lot of St. Marks Hospital. According to a probable-cause statement, she had a swollen face, lips, feet, knees and a knocked-out tooth. The police arrested the man at work Wednesday, and he later acknowledged that he went further than he ever had during the beating, the statement said. The man was booked on two felony and two misdemeanor charges, including aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
