A 15-year-old died Tuesday after a tire blew out, causing a crash on Interstate 15 in Millard County.
Ben Nelson, of Chandler, Ariz., was traveling about two miles north of Holden at 5 p.m. in a 2001 Dodge Caravan. His mother was driving the family of seven when a tire popped, sending the van into a sideways skid, troopers said.
The vehicle spun off the road and rolled onto the driver's side. The teen was partially ejected through a driver-side window even though he was wearing a safety belt. He died at the scene. Four other children and the two parents, all wearing safety belts, were taken to Fillmore Community Medical Center for injuries.
The family's intended destination is not clear, troopers said. -Erin Alberty
