A former Washington County teacher, pastor and day care operator has admitted in 5th District Court that he kissed an 11-year-old girl and attempted to touch her chest and buttocks.

Gabriel E. Carlin, 34, was initially charged with four counts of aggravated child sex abuse, first-degree felonies punishable by up to life in prison.

He has pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree felony attempted sexual abuse of a child.

Carlin faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 3 by Judge Eric Ludlow.

Police have said the abuse occurred in March 2006, when Carlin, owner of the now-defunct East Harbor Christian Academy in the town of Washington, gave the student a ride to her home in St. George.
