Posted: 8:09 AM- The idea of free public transit on days when air pollution is at its worst is getting another look.

Officials from the Utah Transit Authority and the Wasatch Front Regional Council decided to reconsider. The idea was discussed this spring but officials said it wouldn't work because of financial and logistical regions.

UTA chief operating officer Jerry Benson says everyone needs to be concerned about air quality, especially on days when the alert level is "red." Public transit can get many cars off the road and decrease the amount of exhaust that gets pumped into the air.

Benson says the idea of free or reduced fares for buses or trains is going to be studied some more.
