Wally Bloss, president of the board, said Wednesday that the board decided Bower should work through July 31, so that he can help tie up loose ends after the June 12-14 affair.
Bower had sent the board a letter of resignation effective July 31, but the board previously decided his last day would be June 30.
The board accepted Bower's resignation earlier this month - a move Bower described as a firing - after Bower was sentenced to spend two days in jail for cashing a check he was not entitled to cash. He had pled guilty to a class B misdemeanor of wrongful appropriation. He had cashed a $495.99 cashier's check made out to a property-management company and which he earlier had reported missing.
Bower's role in Summerfest has been an obstacle to the nonprofit's obtaining a state permit to accept charitable contributions.
Kevin Olsen, director of the Utah Division of Consumer Protection, has rejected the application because of Bower's past criminal record, including 1989 and 1990 convictions for third-degree felony theft and a 2005 conviction of a class B misdemeanor count of wrongful appropriation.
After the Summerfest board accepted Bower's resignation, Olsen said Summerfest's permit application for a permit likely will be approved.
