A man plummeted 30 feet to his death Thursday while attempting to rope swing in Ferguson Canyon. Authorities say the 23-year-old Salt Lake County resident was swinging on a rope tied to a tree near 7600 South and 3800 East, halfway up a trail in the canyon where he and friends had constructed a swing. Witnesses say the man lost his grip on the rope and fell down the canyon's rocky terrain into a creek around 6:25 p.m., said Capt. Jay Fearnley of the United Fire Authority. He sustained a skull fracture and other serious injuries after hitting his head on rocks in the shallow water, Fearnley said.
