Law Day activities reflect an ongoing, yearlong commitment by Utah's lawyers and the Utah State Bar to provide law-related education with a focus on young people, says Lowry Snow, president of the Utah State Bar, in a press release.
A Law Day luncheon today at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City will honor high school and middle school winners of the state's annual mock-trial competition. Awards will be presented to students from Judge High School and Centennial Middle School.
Also, Margaret Plane will be honored as the Young Lawyer of the Year, and the Scott M. Matheson Award will be given to West Valley City Justice Court Judge Brendan P. McCullagh in recognition of his outstanding contributions to law-related education for youths, according to the press release.
The Liberty Bell Award, given to a non-lawyer who has contributed to the legal community, will be handed to Darren Workman at the luncheon. Workman works with juveniles who have broken the law.
The Annual Law Day Run will be Saturday at 8 a.m. beginning at the University of Utah S. J. Quinney College of Law, according to the press release.
Tickets to the luncheon, which begins at noon, are $25 and are available in advance from the Utah State Bar
