Train enthusiasts and potential commuters will celebrate a joining of the rails for Utah today with free rides on the Wasatch Front's new commuter and light-rail lines.

FrontRunner's sneak peek starts today, and normal daily operation begins Monday.

When to get on board: The Utah Transit Authority will host an opening ceremony at Salt Lake City's intermodal hub, 250 S. 600 West, at 12:30 p.m., and start loading FrontRunner trains for free rides at 2 p.m. A train will leave Ogden heading south at the same time, and the trains will run until 8 or 9 p.m.

TRAX to and from the transit hub: TRAX trains will run as free shuttles between the transit hub and the Arena Station, where riders can switch to Sandy or University trains. Beginning Sunday, the Sandy and University trains will run seamlessly to the hub.
