Three delegates were elected and Jack Tige was named new GOP chairman as 40 Republicans met Saturday for the party's convention at the Piute County Courthouse in Junction.
McVoy Barben, who has been the party's vice chairman for the past 25 years, pointed out that the county also will hold a primary election for the open seat on the County Commission.
In the primary, incumbent Commissioner Kay Blackwell will face challenger Rhonda A. Kennedy.
Barben said that whenever two people in the county have filed for the same office, a primary is scheduled automatically. - Mark Havnes
