After serving for 16 years, Hickman retired at the end of the past legislative session.
The 446 delegates at the convention picked candidates for Utah House District 75, Utah Senate District 29 and the County Commission.
None of the races will require a primary because one candidate in each of the races received at least 60 percent of the vote.
On the first ballot, Rep. Steve Urquhart, R-St. George, hoping to fill the vacancy created by Hickman's retirement, picked up 72 percent of the vote, while former Utah PTA President Carman Snow received 28 percent.
The House District 75 seat, which Urquhart is giving up for his Senate bid, Donald Ipson came away with 67 percent of the vote over three other candidates.
In the bid for the single County Commission seat up for election, incumbent Alan Gardner pulled in 80 percent of the vote, while challenger Greg Aldred received 20 percent.
The three nominated candidates advance to the Nov. 4 general election.
GOP candidates for the 2nd Congressional District also addressed the convention, held on the campus of Dixie State College and attended by about 1,000 GOP supporters.
The candidates spoke of the importance of ousting Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson in November and praised the job of the heavily Republican Legislature in managing state affairs.
The state GOP convention is scheduled to be held May 10 in Orem.
