The city offices are now open for the entire five-day work week. City staffers used to work four 10-hour days per week. Now some will have the option of taking off Monday instead of Friday, or they can switch to a five-day work schedule.
The move fulfills what Mayor Heather Jackson called her No. 1 campaign promise. She was elected in November to finish the final two years of Mayor Brian Olsen's term. She said the move will better accommodate residents and developers alike.
The five-day week will come with only a small fiscal impact.
The city is adding a deputy-recorder position in part to boost security on Fridays so the recorder isn't left alone in the office. But Jackson said that the city would have added the position eventually anyway. - Steve Gehrke
