WASHINGTON - A Senate panel has postponed two hearings set for today to look at the aftermath of the Crandall Canyon disaster. A day after the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education and Related Agencies said that mine co-owner Robert Murray would not have to testify, the panel scrapped the remaining parts of the hearings. No date was set to revive the hearings, one of which was to hear testimony on an audit blasting the Mine Safety and Health Administration as "negligent" in the lead-up to the disaster that killed nine men in rural Utah. The other hearing was slated to review what improvements have been made to miner safety. - Thomas Burr
