PROVO - The Municipal Council will have to wait until April 21 to learn how the city plans to save its beleaguered fiber-optic network, iProvo.

Mayor Lewis Billings issued an invitation to the council to meet that day with the city's Telecommunications Board to hear from the city administration and the consultants, CCG Consulting and Franklin Court Partners, alternatives to make iProvo self-sustaining. The city leases its fiber-optic network to providers of Internet, television and telephone service. However, the system has never attracted enough subscribers to become truly self-sufficient and requires a $2 million annual subsidy from the city.

The consultants were hired last year recommend changes in operating the system. Municipal Councilman Steve Turley attempted to obtain the reports through the state Government Records Access and Management Act, but his request was denied on the grounds that the reports were in draft form.

In his memo, Billings said the reports will be available to the council on April 17, and the consultants will give their final reports on April 28.
