The U.S. Attorney's Office for Utah, which is based in Salt Lake City, is opening a branch in St. George.

Staffing the branch will be two assistant U.S. attorneys, a legal administrative specialist and a legal assistant.

The U.S. Marshals Service also will open an office in St. George with two full-time employees. Previously, a part-time employee was based in the southern Utah city.

Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said the branch location was chosen because St. George has been growing rapidly.

On Monday, Sen. Orrin Hatch and Rep. Jim Matheson will join U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman to officially announce that the office has received Department of Justice and congressional approval to open the branch.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Kohler already is working in St. George and is based in the Washington County Attorney's Office until a spot for the branch is picked. The other jobs will be filled by new hires.
