Police officer facing sex charges resigns

Posted: 8:39 PM- ST. GEORGE - A Hurricane police officer facing sex charges has resigned from the force.

Police spokesman Ken Perkins, said Nathan Amosa, 24, resigned from the police department this morning.

Lt. Jake Adams, with the Washington County Sheriff's Office that investigated the allegations, said today the agency had concluded its investigation and turned the case over to the Washington County Attorney's Office.

Amosa was charged today with one count of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony, and two counts of forcible sex abuse, second-degree felonies. Amosa is scheduled for an initial appearance Thursday in 5th District Court.

Perkins said Amosa was placed on administrative leave Friday after the allegations against him were made.

Amosa was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on Saturday, but was released after posting a $30,000 bond, according to the jail.

Perkins said Amosa joined the Hurricane Police Department in September 2007.
