Red Butte Garden's outdoor classroom program is looking for volunteers to share a passion for the environment with schoolchildren.

Volunteers are needed to lead weekly school groups of first- through fourth-grade students on garden tours, teaching them about the natural world. Training is required and provided. For information, visit www.redbuttegarden.org or call 801- 585-5688.

Utah elementary school students will get an early taste of college Tuesday.

The University of Utah will welcome 1,500 sixth-grade students who will sample classes and facilities as part of the 18th annual Project Youth.

The event, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., is intended to inspire the students to seek higher education after they graduate from high school.

U. volunteer students will serve as mentors for a day as they share their own college experiences and lead tours across campus.

The event will conclude with a rally at the Huntsman Center on campus, where students will listen to guest speakers.

Tracy Aviary is offering a series of weeklong summer day camps for children to connect with nature through birds.

The camps will be open to children ages 4 to 9 and will be held throughout June and July at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City's Liberty Park. Half-day camps are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Full-day camp is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an after-care option until 5:30 p.m.

Summer camp registration is open now. Space is limited and the early bird special is available to those who register before May 1.
