LOGAN - Without any bluster, the Logan City Council has agreed to spend $200,000 to double its wind-power supply. Logan Power & Light engineering manager Garth Turley said the purchase of 2 megawatts of wind-generated electricity from a partner in the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems group is the right move.

"It [wind power] fits well in our load curve," Turley told the council Tuesday. "It helps our green portfolio." St. George and Logan are among several partners in the 25-year PPM Energy Inc. agreement of 2003 to use output from a Wyoming wind turbine, but the southwest Utah city has had a change of heart.

"We decided to put our money locally in developing a solar farm near our wastewater treatment plant," said Marc Morten- sen, assistant St. George city manager. And that frees up more of the power for Logan. - Arrin Newton Brunson
