Posted: 9:00 AM- A court clerk in Ogden faces a forgery charge after using a judge's signature stamp in an attempt to evict her own tenant.
Maria Gomez, 38, a 2nd District Court window clerk, was arraigned Monday on forgery, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors said she used Judge Parley S. Baldwin's stamp on a document in an eviction lawsuit in January.
The case was moved to 1st District Court to avoid the appearance of conflict.
Forgery carries a maximum of 5 years in prison.
The court is following a stricter policy on the use of signature stamps following the incident, court spokeswoman Nancy Volmer said.
