Burdick has declared his candidacy for District 6, pledging to put growth issues such as affordable housing and economic development at the forefront of his campaign.
The Sandy Republican's County Council bid comes after Hendrickson, a two-term councilman, announced he will not seek re-election.
Burdick plans to parade his experience, touting his 12-year tenure on the Sandy City Planning Commission (five years as chairman) and five-year term on the Alta Canyon Quadrant Council. He also crafted Sandy's neighborhood-coordinator program and was named "Sandy Citizen of the Year" four times.
Aside from that? "I'm pretty level-headed," he says, "and a sensible voice."
Burdick said he will advocate more affordable housing - and a better definition of what "affordable" means - in the fast-growing Salt Lake Valley. He also will prod economic development as a way to pay for that growth.
"What can we do to economic development," he asks, "to pay for the services we have and not increase taxes?"
Burdick is a father of five who previously operated his own FM radio station and served as vice president of marketing for the Osmond Foundation/Children's Miracle Network.
Now a real estate broker, Burdick plans to run a campaign that he says will include more than 300 sign locations and donations topping $100,0000.
