Posted: 8:26 AM- GENOLA -- Genola Mayor Eric Hazelet says the town will be able to recover from the disappearance of $240,000 from its budget between 2001 and 2007.

Former town Clerk Traci Wright is charged with 27 felony counts in the embezzlement of the money. Wright resigned Aug. 24.

Following the discovery, the town has hired two new clerks _ one of which spends four hours a week reviewing records. It also purchased new record-keeping software and is seeking to replace its independent auditing firm, which failed to catch the missing funds in annual audits.

Hazelet's comments came in a town meeting Wednesday.
