Jordan Board of Education member Ellen Wallace has announced she will not serve on the board being formed to represent the new school district from Jordan School District's east side.

Wallace, who was elected to the Jordan board in 1995, will opt out of her automatic appointment to the new board, which will start functioning in July. "I am entering my 14th year of service as a Jordan school board member. I have appreciated the opportunity to serve my constituents for this period of time," Wallace said in a statement.

"I have decided, however, that my service to the district should end when the transition to the two new districts is finished."

Wallace will remain on the Jordan board until it is dissolved in July 2009.

If she had chosen to serve on the new board, she would have represented Precinct 5 in the new district, which will serve students living in Alta, Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Midvale, Sandy and portions of incorporated Salt Lake County. - Roxana Orellana
