Taylorsville Mayor Russ Wall landed a 10 percent raise this week. In a 3-2 vote, the City Council bumped the mayor's annual salary to $78,925 and tacked an extra $1,150 to their own annual wages. Two years ago, Wall said, a study determined he was the lowest paid, full-time mayor in Utah, earning $65,000 per year. With the raise, he's likely still among the lowest-earning mayors in the state. "I didn't get into [public service] for the money," he said. "If I looked at stuff like that, I'd probably get a job outside of the city." Council Chairman Les Matsumura voted against the raises, although he supported the mayor's boost. "The mayor is definitely underpaid," Matsumura said. But serving on the council, he added, is a "public service," not a "part-time job." Council pay had not been increased for 12 years, City Manager John Inch Morgan said. - Rosemary Winters
