Now Centerville and Bountiful are looking for the next $5 million to $10 million to fund the South Davis Performing Arts Center.
An administrative-control board, consisting of council members and mayors of both cities, has been assembled to oversee the new center's creation.
The first task: Find those extra millions.
Centerville City Manager Steve Thacker said the theater is estimated to cost between $15 million and $18 million. The hope is to have it ready for the 2010 fall season.
The Centerville Redevelopment Agency has committed to about $5 million and the 2.7-acre lot on 400 West, a block north of Parrish Lane in the Marketplace District.
Another $5 million would come from the new Recreation, Arts and Parks tax.
Starting in April, 1 cent will be taken off of every $10 purchase made in in Centerville and Bountiful, and 90 percent of that tax would go to the theater.
The South Davis Cultural Arts Association has applied for private donations and grants, hoping to result in an extra $2 million to $3 million.
Thacker said the two cities have requested Davis County pitch in $5 million in restaurant tax, but "up to this point there's no agreement as far as how much, or if any."
The board will likely have its first meeting in mid-March.
