A bill that would require 20 percent of energy to come from renewable resources by 2025 passed the House on Tuesday.

SB202 would not set any intermediary mandated target dates and would only use "cost-effective" renewable energy, said House sponsor Rep. Dave Clark, R-SantaƂ Clara.

"For those of us hoping to see the Legislature write the first chapter in Utah's renewable energy future, we didn't get it with SB202," said Christopher Thomas, HEAL Utah's policy director. "We got the preamble." The bill now goes to the governor for his signature or veto. - Sheena McFarland
