A water truck driver died Tuesday when a sheet of ice slid off the top of an oncoming vehicle and crashed through his windshield in Uintah County.

Colin E. Harmston, 51, of Vernal, was driving north on State Road 45 near Naples at about 11:20 a.m. when his water truck drove by another water truck, which was southbound, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden. The ice broke through the glass and hit Harmston in the head, Roden said. The other water truck driver was unaware of the accident until someone told him about it later, Roden said. He retraced his steps and determined he was in the area at the time of the accident; his truck matched a witness's description, Roden said. No charges are pending. - Erin Alberty
