The House on Tuesday passed a bill that would keep teachers who have sex with their students from ever teaching in Utah again.

Now, the Utah State Board of Education generally revokes teachers' teaching licenses for a certain number of years, depending on the situation.

After that time, the teachers could regain their licenses if they can prove they have taken steps to become rehabilitated.

Rep. Carl Wimmer's bill, which was prompted by the case of Riverton teacher Frank Laine Hall who molested his elementary school students, would permanently revoke such teachers' licenses.

"The odds of him ever being able to teach again in this state are slim to none," said Wimmer, R-Herriman. "But I want to make sure it's none."

The bill passed unanimously and moves to the Senate. - Lisa Schencker
