State senators on Wednesday decided a proposal to create a state holiday on the day after Thanksgiving was a turkey.

SB145, sponsored by Sen. John Hickman, R-St. George, would take away state employees' personal preference day and instead give them Family Day on Black Friday. The bill met with great resistance from senators - but an outpouring of bad jokes and banter.

Hickman took it with good humor, burying his head in his hand while chuckling, and at one point apologizing for taking up the Senate's time with the legislation. The bill was put out of its misery. The enacting clause was struck and it will be filed with no further action. - Sheena McFarland
