Salem doctor charged in drugs-for-sex

Posted: 9:56 AM- PROVO -- Prosecutors have filed a felony drug charge against a Salem doctor arrested for allegedly trading prescription drugs for sex.

Max Kent Cannon was arrested in a Provo hotel sting set up by police and a woman from whom he allegedly solicited sex.

Cannon appeared in 4th District Court Monday, the same day Utah County prosecutors charged him with third-degree felony possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Cannon has been a physician in private practice with privileges at three Utah County hospitals. State officials say Cannon's medical license has expired.

Earl Xaiz, Cannon's attorney declined comment on the case. A hearing is set for Feb. 29.
