The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is consolidating its Utah field offices under a new level of district oversight.

While each of the 10 field offices will continue to operate as they do currently, they will report to district offices in four cities instead of straight to the state office, said spokeswoman Mary Wilson.

The BLM is taking similar measures in other Western states to streamline top-to-bottom communications, she said.

The Salt Lake and Fillmore field offices will be in the West Desert District, headquartered in Salt Lake City. The Vernal and Price field offices will be the Green River District, with its office in Vernal. Moab and Monticello will combine as the Canyon Country District in Moab. Cedar City, Kanab, St. George and Richfield will be the Color Country District in Cedar City.

The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument will continue to report directly to the state office and will keep its office in Kanab. Land use management plans now in progress won't be affected by the change, Wilson said.
