The Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Committee on Tuesday gave its approval to a House bill that would fund the construction of a new veterans nursing home in Ogden, giving the legislation the same expeditious and unanimous treatment it received in the House.
In past years the bill has stalled in the upper chamber, where concerns over one provision of the bill - an assumption that the federal government will repay about three-quarters of the construction costs at a yet-to-be-determined time - made Senators reluctant to act.
But none of the senators involved in committee approval expressed any concerns about that plan, which bill proponents said they take to be a good sign. HB129 now will be delivered to the full Senate for consideration. - Matthew D. LaPlante
