Posted: 9:02 AM- Bishop John C. Wester of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City says undocumented immigrants should be given a legal path to citizenship.
Wester says an enforcement-only approach is ineffective and unjust. In comments Sunday at the St. Catherine of Siena Newman Center, he cited the Gospel mandate to "welcome the stranger" and suggested Jesus himself was a refugee.
Wester is asking people to write to their U.S. senators in support of the DREAM Act, which would allow illegal immigrants in high school to attend college or enter the military and gain citizenship eligibility.
