PROVO - Gary Anderson took the reins as the new Utah County Commission chairman Wednesday.

Anderson, who was elected to the commission in 2006, was previously the commission's vice chairman. He also had served in the 1980s as a commissioner. He replaces Commissioner Steve White in the chairman's position.

Commissioner Larry Ellertson was appointed the commission's vice chairman, replacing Anderson.

Commissioners also received portfolio assignments for the new year. Anderson's assignments include the County Attorney's Office, board appointments, the Children's Justice Center, justice court, the Sheriff's Office, economic development and the Council of Governments.

Ellertson's portfolio includes the county agriculture inspection and extension programs; assessor, recorder and treasurer offices; public works; senior services; personnel; and the ice-sheet authority.

White's portfolio includes the bookmobile, the county clerk/auditor, and health and substance abuse programs.

All commissioners are assigned to regional planning.
