Mayor-elect Ralph Becker has tapped a crew of former Democratic lawmakers, lobbyists, city officials and business owners, among others, to oversee his transition team.

The next Salt Lake City mayor, who takes office Jan. 7, huddled with the steering committee members this week to outline goals.

During the next month, the team will interview city employees, residents, business owners, community activists and others to evaluate city services and personnel at City Hall.

Each member of the steering committee will appoint a group of five to 10 people to advise the team. Both ethnic and geographical representation will be considered for the groups, according to Becker spokesman David Everitt.

The team also will look at how other cities serve their residents before making recommendations to the mayor-elect.

Here are the members of Becker's new steering committee and their areas of oversight:

* Former Mayor Palmer DePaulis, chairman.

* Lobbyist Mike Zuhl, vice chairman.

* Salt Lake Chamber executive Natalie Gochnour, economic development.

* Former state Sen. Karen Hale, neighborhoods and community.

* Former state Sen. Patrice Arent, legal and justice.

* Redevelopment Agency Director D.J. Baxter, public works.

* City Councilman Soren Simonsen, sustainability.

* Special education teacher Jennifer Mayer-Glenn, education.

* Business owner David Ibarra, administrative services.

* West Jordan police Capt. Gary Cox, public safety.

* Utah House Democratic Caucus communications director Rebecca Chavez-Houck, boards and commissions.

* Attorney Ben McAdams, at-large.

* University of Utah professor Bob Huefner, at-large.
