Ensign School to host involvement fair

The Ensign School Community Council invites neighbors to visit the school's Community Involvement Fair, Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the school, 775 12th Ave., Salt Lake City.

Learn more about the new tutorial reading program, in which volunteers read one-on-one with selected students. A new artist in residence will be working in her studio, and the PTA is offering fire extinguishers for sale. For more information contact Anne Peterson, 595-0456 or Scoopslc@aol.com.

Parenting conference set for Weber State

Weber State University's Nontraditional Student Center will sponsor a parenting conference Thursday in the Shepherd Union Building on campus. The conference is free to attendees, and lunch will be provided. The conference will feature workshops throughout the day on topics such as the five love languages, family communication techniques, and budgeting and investing. Space is limited. BYU to hold World Fest celebration

Brigham Young University students can sample the world's cultures during the annual World Fest celebration of international cultures and peoples Nov. 13-16.

Students, faculty and community members are invited to participate in festivities, which will commence at noon on Tuesday with opening ceremonies and a performance by Living Legends, BYU's multicultural performing ensemble, in the Wilkinson Student Center Garden Court.

Visitors may then attend daily performances at noon and, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visit more than 40 cultural booths to learn first-hand from BYU's international students. For more information, call International Services at 801-422-2695 or visit internationalservices.byu.edu.

Discussing comic books as teaching tool

The City Library will host a free conference on comic books and their use in teaching literacy to ESL students on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City.

Einser Award-winning cartoonist Bill Morrison, "Supernatural Law" creator Batton Lash, Paul Levitz and Karen Berger of DC Comics, and local comic artists are presenters. For information, call 801-524-8200.

Bread 'N Soup Nights on tap at CEU

College of Eastern Utah is sponsoring its eighth annual Bread 'N Soup Nights today, Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center, with proceeds from the dinner going to the Carbon County Food Bank.

"It gets the community involved in our campus, and everyone can get to know each other better. It's also an enjoyable way for people to contribute to the hungry in our local area," said Heather Gray, CEU student and SUN Center president who oversees hunger issues. Since its inception in 1997, CEU has donated more than $15,000 to the Carbon County Food Bank.

Three soups and a variety of breads are available to patrons. The cost is adults $5; students $3; meal-plan students $2; and children 8 years and under $2.
