"Real unusual," Darren DeBloois, a state wildlife biologist, said of the color. "It does happen but it's pretty rare."
The female moose was on a ridge between Logan Canyon and Green Canyon. It was not shot nor did it show signs of being attacked by another animal.
"It's pretty steep up there," DeBloois said Friday. "Sometimes moose will get mineral deficiencies or parasites. A fall can be enough to finish them off. Accidents happen even in the animal kingdom."
The moose was reported in mid-October. DeBloois saw pictures and tried to hike to it but was stopped by bad weather.
"It certainly would have been interesting to see if it was a true albino or not," he said.
DeBloois believes it was the same white moose seen earlier this year with a calf, who was not white.
