Brian Hyer has been named Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s deputy director of communications, replacing Jami Palmer.
Hyer most recently was the spokesman for the state Division of Homeland Security. Before that he worked as an assignment editor and producer for KSL-TV.
"I appreciate Brian's willingness to continue his public service in this new capacity," Huntsman said in a prepared statement. "I have seen his work ethic and dedication in action and am happy to have him join our team."
Palmer, who will be married next month, is leaving to work as a national director for the Children's Miracle Network. She ultimately plans to move to Iowa, where she also will be a TV reporter.
