A public hearing on the state's role in mine safety will begin at 1 p.m. today at Huntington Elementary School in Huntington.
The Utah Mine Safety Commission, created by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. in the wake of last month's Crandall Canyon mine disaster, will be available for much of the afternoon to take comment on what state officials can and should be doing to improve mine safety.
Before the public hearing, commission members will meet at 10 a.m. at the Emery County school.
