"It's humbling and gratifying - a real tribute to all of those who I work with and have worked with over the years," Henshaw said.
Henshaw, 53, has been Alpine superintendent since 2000. He has been an educator for many years, serving as an assistant superintendent, high school principal, assistant principal and teacher.
"I've always had a passion for working with young people and seeing the excitement as they learn and achieve," he said. "Now I not only see the students learn and achieve but also teachers and administrators."
Henshaw is known for his efforts to improve communication.
He put together a council that meets six times a year and distributes information to the 12 communities in the Alpine district.
The Orem resident said through his experience, he has learned that when patrons understand what is going on and they can give their feedback, more gets done.
"The key is just doing it," he said.
As head of a growing district in need of more facilities, Henshaw directed two multimillion-dollar bond campaigns.
He attributes the success of the bond elections in part to good relationships with groups such as the PTA, school and district community councils, and residents.
"It's just a pleasure knowing you are appreciated as you continue forward," he said.
