If elected, Wilson vows to partner with teachers, city employees and business leaders to ensure educational success for capital kids.
Her priorities include:
* Expanding Head Start funding.
* Opposing vouchers.
* Expanding the Youth City program.
* Recruiting businesses to create after-school internships for students.
* Creating internships for kids at City Hall.
* Opposing smaller school district equalization proposals that strip funding from the Salt Lake School District.
* Fostering partnerships between schools and communities.
* Facilitating more field trips to city libraries, parks and recreation centers as well as promoting school involvement in cultural events and festivals
"As a mother and longtime resident, I hold this issue near and dear to my heart," Wilson said. "Our children will face a number of daunting challenges during their lives; the least we can do for them is ensure they get the best education possible."

Democracy Week
To prepare for the Sept. 11 mayoral primary, Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is pushing a series of activities this week to help enhance participatory democracy.
Starting today, residents are encouraged to read and ponder the first two paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. At 3 p.m., there will be a public forum on immigration at the city's downtown library.
On Monday, residents are encouraged to discuss their thoughts on democracy with five people they don't know.
Tuesday, the plan asks residents to find out who represents them - at the local, state and federal level - and learn more about their political caucuses and voting precincts. At 7 p.m., residents are invited to attend a mayoral candidate forum at Westminster College's Gore auditorium.
On Wednesday, Anderson is encouraging residents to research an important public-policy position, then link three arguments that support it with three arguments that oppose it.
Thursday, residents are asked to visit a library and check out a book on democracy.
Friday, businesses are encouraged to conduct political literacy workshops and discussions with their employees during breaks or lunch. The mayor's Office of Diversity will be available to facilitate the discussions.
Finally, on Saturday, residents are urged to write a letter to the editor to express what democracy means to them.
