Posted: 8:36 AM- ST. GEORGE - The St. George City Council has decided to buy 17 acres at the new airport site for $1.15 million.
The Spectrum newspaper says 95 percent of the total cost will be paid from a Federal Aviation Administration grant. The city will pay the remainder.
In all, the city's new airport will require a total of 1,331 acres to operate, said St. George Public Works Director Larry Bulloch.
The purchase approved Thursday leaves St. George with just under 870 acres left to purchase for the airport.
The city is negotiating purchase of those remaining parcels, Bulloch said.
