South Jordan says it is the state's fastest-growing city. Officials are basing their boast on the U.S. Census Bureau's recently released 2006 population estimates.

The city's population jumped from 40,209 in 2005 to 44,009 in 2006. That's a growth rate of 9.45 percent. The southwest Salt Lake County suburb is the state's 13th-largest city.

City Manager Rick Horst expects the city to climb to 11th-biggest, surpassing Murray and Logan, when the Census releases its 2007 estimates. The city calculates its population is currently 50,109.
