The Utah Board of Regents on Tuesday said it has begun its search to select the next commissioner of higher education in anticipation of current Commissioner Richard Kendell's plan to retire at the end of this year.

The regents' executive committee will lead the search, beginning with the establishment of a candidate pool and the recommendation of finalists to the regents. The finalists' names will be released to the public later this year, and private interviews will be held. Information regarding the search, including the job description, dates and deadlines, the search committee and finalists will be posted on the regents' Web site at www.utahsbr.edu.

Chapman heads WSU trustees

Barney Chapman has been elected chairman of the Weber State University Board of Trustees. Jerry Stevenson has been elected vice-chairman. Chapman, a retired vice president for America First Credit Union, succeeds Thomas Davidson, whose term as a WSU trustee ended in June. A member of the board since 2003, Chapman served as vice-chairman for the trustees during the past two years and has been chairman of the board's business and community relations committees.

Stevenson, a former mayor of Layton and president of the Utah Defense Alliance, has been a member of the business committee since joining the board in 2005.
