Other tax increases loom on the horizon in Davis County.

This week, councils from four cities - Centerville, Bountiful, Woods Cross and West Bountiful - voted to place a one-tenth-cent sales tax on November's ballot to fund recreation, arts and parks (RAP). If approved, the funds would help construct the South Davis Performing Arts Center.

One city, North Salt Lake, said no thanks.

"The council discussed it Tuesday night and said enough is enough," said Mayor Shanna Schaefermeyer.

"It died for lack of a motion" - and it won't be coming back around, she added.

Farmington's City Council will discuss the RAP tax at their Aug. 21 meeting.

"There's good support for it but the timing is bad because of property tax increases and the proposed quarter-cent transportation tax," said Mayor Scott Harbertson. "The council was concerned about putting too many tax options on the ballot and which to leave off."

"In my opinion, transportation trumps the arts, as much as I enjoy them," he added.
