LINDON - The city's new acting mayor is no stranger to city government.

Jim Dain previously served three terms on the City Council from 1992 to 2004. Late last week, the City Council chose him to replace Mayor Jeff Acerson, who stepped down last month to serve as an LDS mission president in Rome.

The city's Web site says Dain will be sworn in to his new office at tonight's council meeting.

City Manager Ott Dameron said Dain was one of two candidates the council considered for the interim mayor's post. The other candidate was Councilman Bruce Carpenter.

Dain also has filed to run in November for the remainder of Acerson's term as mayor, which expires in December 2009, Dameron said. Carpenter has filed for re-election to the council.

If not elected, Dain will serve only until January, Dameron said.
