A judge on Friday ordered a former third-grade teacher at Tooele's East Elementary School to stand trial on eight counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

The first-degree felony charges against Christopher Burton claim he allegedly fondled multiple students from January to March, when parents complained to police.

The 26-year-old, who was fired on April 30, is being detained at the Tooele County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Third District Judge Mark Kouris ordered Burton's trial after testimony by students in a multi-day preliminary hearing that ended Friday.

"It was a very difficult thing for them to go through but they did a fantastic job," Tooele County Attorney L. Douglas Hogan said. An arraignment has been scheduled for July 10. - Pamela Manson
