Posted: 5:47 PM- Firefighters are battling a 10,000-acre fire that is being fueled by heavy winds and cheat grass in the desert of Tooele County tonight. The fire has forced the closure of the Aragonite exit on Interstate 80.

The Quincy blaze started about 1 p.m. on the west side of the Cedar Mountains about 75 miles west of Salt Lake City. It moved quickly west and got within 10 miles of I-80.

More than 50 firefighters from the Bureau of Land Management, Tooele County Emergency Services and the Dugway Fire Department were using three engines, a water tender and a BLM plane to fight the fire.

The Utah Highway Patrol assisted in closing Aragonite exit.

Northern Utah Interagency Fire Center spokeswoman Erin Darboven said the Quincy fire burned about 10 miles of vegetation near the Dugway Proving Ground between 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Winds were reportedly gusting up to 50 mph. A storm in the area was expected to blow the fire further north during the evening. The fire was expected to be contained by noon Wednesday.

No structures are threatened, no evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.

EnergySolutions spokesman Mark Walker said the company was keeping an eye on the blaze, but that it was 10 miles from the radioactive waste disposal facility.
